General Information

EuroSkills 2008 offers for all European countries unique opportunities for demonstrating the quality of todays craftsmanship and European VET systems. The event promotes VET as an attractive learning route among young people and their parents. Thousands of young trainees and apprentices, young and experienced workers, as well as VET teachers and trainers will participate. Exhibitions, seminars and meetings are organised in parallel to the skills competitions.

For realizing these and future ambitions the European Skills Promotion Organisation (ESPO) has been founded in March 2007. ESPO is a European association in which member organisations, representing their country, work together to promote craftsmanship and vocational education and training. The most important activity concerns the organisation of the biannual event called EuroSkills. In this respect ESPO also takes care of the communication with the European Commission and international partner organisations like EVTA, Cedefop, ETF and WorldSkills.

A request to the European Commission to support the ESPO Working Plan 2007/2008 is in general discussed and approved by the EU Lifelong Learning Committee in March 2007. Through this plan support will be given to activities in relation to the organisation of the biannual event EuroSkills, promotional activities on a European level and also directly to the ESPO member organisations.

“The European Commission is supporting this initiative in the framework of the Copenhagen process on enhanced European cooperation in vocational education and training. It is a practical and constructive means to raise the image and quality of VET systems in Europe, and their attractiveness, particularly among young people and their parents.”
